home - cards from Hannover - taxes - collection - societies - my publications |
These cards were produced by an unknown maker in Switzerland in the late 19th century.
The cards show the usual Swiss standard pattern with French suit-signs used still today. A typical detail are the 'index numbers' in the upper left corner suit-signs of the pip cards on both sides.
The interesting features of this pack are the back with an inset advert for
liquors made by Amstutz&Denner in Thun, and the St. Gallen tax stamp on the Ace of Hearts.
The hand-written texts at the top of each card show that the pack was used for fortune-telling.
